Not all teachers return to the classroom from the previous year. There are different factors contributing to teachers who do not return to teach such as compensation, being overworked, physical health, and not enjoying teaching anymore. The Lowcountry region saw a declining trend in teachers returning to teach. According to the University of South Carolina, the main drivers for teachers to return to teaching are an increase in salary, stronger administrative support, and support from teaching colleagues. In addition, the region saw an increase in inexperienced teachers. Lack of sufficient, stable and experienced teachers can negatively affect students’ performance and achievement.
