Mortality

Mortality data are a primary source of information for identifying and monitoring chronic diseases and other public health problems. Mortality may affect, for example, health disparities, age distribution, and social policy. All counties’ mortality rates have increased since 2012. Between 2012-2020, Colleton County had the highest mortality rate among the four counties, which was also higher than that of the state. In 2021, the top five leading causes of infant death in the region are heart disease, cancer, Covid-19, accidents, and cerebrovascular disease.
