Homeownership

Homeownership plays a vital role in helping to build strong and stable communities. Owning a home also helps people build financial stability and a sense of belonging in their community. The homeownership rate is the proportion of total population in owner-occupied housing units. As seen in the dashboard, homeownership rates for all counties have increased since 2013. The rates for Colleton and Hampton Counties were higher than those of the state during the same period. the rates for Jasper County have increased significantly between 2018 and 2022.

Definition	Home Ownership: The estimated total population in owner-occupied units. For the homeownership rate, it is computed by dividing the estimated total population in owner-occupied units by the estimated total population.
