Housing Structure

The type of housing structure can help define density and development intensity. The more dwelling units located in an area, the higher the density. The dashboard shows that Beaufort and Jasper Counties have the greatest growth in multi-family housing, especially, a significant increase in the 10 or more unit category. The growth in multi-family housing reflects an increase in density of households in the areas, especially where there is greater employment and easier access to transit. However, the region started to see a decrease in many other housing types between 2020 and 2022.

Note: While the 2000 data is based on decennial census, the 2010, 2020, and 2022 data are based on 5-year estimates (2006-2010, 2016-2020, and 2018-2022 respectively). Users should exercise caution when comparing this data.
