Suboptimal Housing

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), suboptimal housing refers to housing with at least one of four problems or conditions including incomplete kitchen facilities, incomplete plumbing facilities, overcrowding (more than 1 person per room), or cost burden (monthly housing costs including utilities) exceeding 30% of monthly income. In 2022, Beaufort and Jasper Counties had the high percentage of owners and renters with housing problems.
