County Overview

With a land area of 655 square miles and 28,791 population, the population density in the county is approximately 44 people per square mile. The county is situated in the southeastern portion of South Carolina in the Atlantic coastal plain. The county is bordered by Beaufort County, South Carolina on the northeast, Chatham County, Georgia on the southwest, Effingham County, Georgia on the west across the Savannah River, Hampton County, South Carolina on the north, and the Atlantic Ocean on the south. The county’s long border on the Savannah River, its fresh-water, and salt-water rivers all make perfect hunting, fishing and recreational areas.

Jasper County's climate is humid and subtropical. The summers are long and hot, and the winters are short and cold. It is wet and partly cloudy year-round. The average annual rainfall is approximately 48 inches with 105 days per year. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 40°F to 92°F and is rarely below 26°F or above 98°F.

There are two municipalities within Jasper County including the City of Hardeeville and the Town of Ridgeland.
